Ode To a Start Up

I try so hard, I do my best
I lost my sleep and I cannot rest,
I'm learning JavaScript and PHP
So I can develop that app for free,
I do not eat and do not drink
These precious moments I have to think:
"Idea, concept, business plan.
My business should be smoothly run,
User experience, and interface,
Design and features in the right place.
But books, movies, relationships I skirt.
I have no money. I cannot even buy a T-shirt!

Hard, entrepreneurial life when you have passion
But no money to survive.
No one believes what we can do.
Only some ideas can come thru.

I have vision, passion and belief
But strangely angels and VC refuse to notice it.
Idea is nothing, execution is God.
Team business model and oh! I forgot,
Million users or better billion,
If not, huge revenues will turn investors on.

Who are your customers and what is the market size?
Look here child you need to realize,
We don't grow our money on a tree
We want to invest and invest risk free.
You need a successful prototype
To prove that your product is working right.
Whole buncha loyal customers on call
To spread the word and benefits to all.

I missed the first great dot com era
When investors were hungrier and unawarer,
Flow of money without a dam
Imagine 800 million on webvan!
Unlucky me, I was thirteen
Grew up in Russia, never saw a computer screen.

Now even angels got bitter
Their seed money is forbidden,
I have to find a key or code
To break the icy attitude they hold.

Bootstrapping is the mantra now,
Lean startups are the home run.
I asked developers to work for free, of course some equity
But they just looked hungry at me,
Not for the work, but for some food,
NYC is the most expensive neighborhood.

Where is the adventurous spirit to build a team?
To push the limits to pursue the dream!
