In 2009 Cork Midsummer Festival and Granary Theatre Cork commissioned the director Pol Heyvaert of CAMPO to undertake a workshop in Cork with 20 teenagers with no previous acting experience. We wrote to 200 Art and Music teachers at secondary schools, youth workers and heads of youth employment schemes asking them to spread the word about the project. During the two weeks of the 2009 Cork Midsummer Festival Pol, his dramaturge Bart Capelle, 20 teenage performers and a teenage creative team explored the theme of being a member of this new Irish generation: the first not to grow up under the authority of the church and the first that has known, until recently, any form of affluence. But also a generation that has experienced more violence and alienation than previous ones, with the highest teenage suicides rates in Europe. Cork city has been at the epicentre of this youth suicide epidemic
