Donnie, what is the difference between Muay Boran and Ledrit style of fighting. I have a friend who says there is no difference. Can you help ?

@clearcombat First off, muay boran is actually an umbrella of older regional muay thai styles (muay lek, muay mae mai, muay chiya) nd if you see it, it's very stylized and steeped in tradition. Lerdrit is focused on modern close quarter combat, so a lot of the traditional stuff has been stripped out and more emphasis is placed on incompacitation as it pertains to an enemy combatant vs. a competitive opponent. Hope this helps.

The knee strike should never be with the patella (knee cap). The striking point should be the end of the femur (long bone of the thigh). That is the reason to pull your foot right up to your butt and point the striking area out towards the target like a spear. If you strike with the patella, you will not only get teeth stuck in it, you will dislocate / fracture it also.

I'm actually not striking with the knee here. I'm using the upper half of the shin to strike. And you are spot on with your advice in regards on knee strike placement and why you pull your leg back when you throw a knee. Pulling the leg back also pulls down the quad to help protect your femur during the attack.
