  • Dead politicians and judges don't steal your money and your lives. It is ILLEGAL to own a home anywhere in the USA that has a property tax -- that's rent - and leads to rape and girl theft for prostitution. ANYONE supporting property tax is supporting rape and girl kidnapping for prostitution - though these supporters are not interested in knowing that. It's the UNITED STATES OF EXTORTION, people!

  • The downside to this is the market value drops too, which lowers the equity in your home, which is a bad thing. The whole point of buying a home is to have the market value increase. You can protest your property's taxable value if you believe it is above the fair market value. It's relatively easy to do as long as you have the supporting documentation. Phil is correct in the alternative taxing options. There aren't many. I'm sick of the way the money is being spent, regardless of it's origin.

  • "rocksiphone"'s point about free school lunches is covered by another government program, i think.....I am not sure about that, but i think it's covered under some state welfare program. To "drsolar111i": your point is valid, sort of. The appraisal district sets the taxable value of your property. It is supposed to be based upon "comparables" which are the sales prices of your neighborhood's homes. The lower the sales price of the "comps", the lower your appraised value...thus lower taxes.

  • I agree with "rocksiphone" about the "not having kids" part. That frustrates me as a homeowner as well. I know it "takes a village" to raise a child, but do we really need all of the anemities that schools have nowadays? Southlake Carroll's stadium is amazing. In SLake's defense, they probably raise enough money from ticket sales to their football games to pay for it, LOL. We could go to school board meetings to address these issues, but I am to busy/lazy.

  • I am a property tax cunsultant in Texas and what he is leaving out about the retirement part is that there is an "Over 65 exemption" that lowers the taxable value of your property if you are retirement age . The over 65 exemption combined with a homestead exemption will lower your property taxes considerably as long as you are living in a modestly priced home. Your school taxes will also "freeze" at the price you are paying the year you turn 65. Feel free to email me at mross89077@hotmail.com.

  • I am tired of paying thousands in school taxes because I have no kids. People that have no kids should at least get some kind of break and let the people who have kids pay a little more. If you can't afford it, home school. Now they have indoor pools and air conditioning, most of us got by without it. I pay for Free Lunches; let the dam parents cook, instead of buying McDonald's. If you are on a tight budget, make Rice & Beans like I did when I was broke.

  • The other issue is that if my home value declines in a down market, I'll bet the prop. taxes still go up. I don't think the assessor is that proactive to re-evalueate your taxes.

  • Let's DO IT! What's the bill number?
