Please keep all comments and debates civil, no vulgarities, ECT...
Part of the problem with African American culture, particularly the youth is that they have bad role models and morals. They tend to idolize thugs as role models. Such as filthy vulgar hateful violent rap artists or drug dealers, or pimps. Having good values isn't idolizing cop killers, murderers, drug dealers, pimps, prostitution, ect...
Money is great, however your soul is priceless. Playing victim isn't going to get you very far, it's probably going to get you a life of hate and greed.
I love money, however I keep things in perspective, I'm not going to do something dishonest to make more money. I would rather have my pride, dignity than lose my soul and risk losing my freedom. I would rather do a job that I enjoy for less pay that is hard work, than to take an easy good paying job that I would dislike and lose my soul.
Good morals, family values, and good work ethic should be a very important.
I'm sure Chris Gardner has some skeletons in his closet. However he showed that he was able to overcome life's hardships and make a success for himself. Not everyone can be as successful. However if you try, most of you can have some degree of success and you're likely to be a lot better off and a lot happier if you do it on your own accord and lift yourself up by your own bootstraps instead of playing victim or trying to take scrupulous shortcuts that are likely to jeopardize your freedom, happiness, wealth and health in the long run.
It's just not African-Americans; it's not just Negroes. The problem with many of today's youth is they don't have good work ethics. They want immediate gratification. Usually success comes after a long period of hard study and work. A job is not an entitlement; it's something that has to be earned. If you cheat to get up the ladder of life, you're more likely to get kicked or fall off, then if you work hard and honest at it.
Now I know my use of the word Negro is liable to bring out the racist bigot in some people. The word Negro is not necessarily a bigoted racist word. The context that I'm using Negro is scientific, not bigoted. Some people want to play the politically correct game and say that we have to use the phrase "Afro-American". That's not scientific, and it does not allow for other nationalities. Am I supposed to assume every Negro I see is an American? Am I supposed to assume The United Negro College Fund, is a bigoted racist organization because they use the word Negro? I find it ironic that people that often want to attack the word Negro are often quite loose with the other N-word. They often try to defend their use of the N-word because of their race or status; I find that attitude to be quite bigoted and hypocritical. I feel that the words themselves are not necessarily bad it is the context (the manner that they are being used). If you are quick to jump to the conclusion that someone is being racist by using a specific word, then you are probably racist.
If African-Americans want role models to boost their morale they should choose one's that are good role models such as George Washington Carver, Chris Gardner, Bill Cosby... instead of bad role models.
