'German Shephard' ??? I think you mean German Shepherd...but what does any shepherds to do with this now?...any way...
1.3 to 1.0 is way to wrong. Its a matter of fact.
Cosmetic Idustry-there are those and those. I agree, but I DO use products without animal tests. Becouse I HAVE A CHOICE. Every one of us.
So choose to protect marine harvest...its your way...
For me this concer ist a simple money maker with badly shameless exploitation of poor countries like Chile and our sees...

@EleniesCosmetics Someone from the cosmetic industry offering their thoughts on ethics and sustainability...cute.
Fish meal efficiency for salmon is far better than you think - about 1.3 to 1.0. Far better then chicken or pork or your German Shephard, so you may wish to spend your energy elsewhere.
Your blushing with embarassment I know. No worries, just cover it up with a strong base - not tested on animals, right?

Dear AquacultureAwarene...everywhere the same coment...? Have no other words?
Just listen attentivly...and THINK! Think for your own! For 1 kg farmed salmon they need 2-3 kg fish meal... so easy is it... just open your eyes!

Exactly John Volpe, exactly.

contributing to the problem is gravel mining for gold, and road bed material for the new high-way/delta port.

Thanks for the effort you show, since this industry have a bad influence on the wildlife, when it grows too big. On the wild salmon and also on the nearby areas, because of the food and waste from the salmon.

I generally sit in the middle of the salmon farming argument mainly because the literature is still inconclusive. There are a bunch of very interesting findings and correlations, but very little in the way of actually showing mortality due to lice load of juveniles (varying in size). There was some good work published on lice and mortality this year though by a DFO researcher

All animals in the wild will have 1 or other kind of epidemic in their life cycle naturally. It happen that the wild salmon have theirs during the farming begins. These people just conveniently tied these events to farmer to get more media attention. How these pathetic & ungrateful beings ever existed in the 1st place. Please tell me how many humans on this planet have actually never consumed farmed products. Organic or otherwise? These experts still have to farm to avoid taking from the wild.

Dear So Called "Experts", If humans have not farmed for food. All wild fish, chikens, pigs, cows, sheeps, goats, ducks, rabbits & others which we consume; is already wiped out at least 100 years ago long before these so called "Enviro Experts" were born. Give some credit to all the hard working farmers worldwide who have provided food for generations of our human species. After the "Experts" are well fed. They go against people who provided them. Why not eat roaches. Those are not endangered.

Historically, over fishing has been the biggest destroyer of these marine ecosystems. Now that there is only a remnant of the wild salmon and their genome left, we must make big changes. Of course there should be an MPA(Marine Protected Area) over most of the B.C. coast. Please click on the hot link on my youtube page to see what the Stream Keepers are doing.
