JACKSON, MO (KFVS) - A Heartland town receives national honors. CNNMoney.com ranked the city of Jackson as one of the top 100 small towns in America.
It's nice to make a list like this with other towns like Louisville, Colorado which ranks first on the list.

Jackson comes in at number 59.

As you drive into town of Jackson, the sign says "Welcome to Jackson:City of beautiful home, churches, schools and parks" and now the 59th best small town to live in America.

Residents say the town lives up to its claim.

"It's just a good town to live in," said Janette Hinkebein. "Good place to raise your family."

"It's a small town. Schools are really good," said Pamela Krontz.

Mayor Barbara Lohr knew the town was being considered for the honor about a month ago.

"I had an email asking for more information and asking for pictures so I knew that we were in the running," she said.

But she didn't know if the town even made the list until CNNMoney.com posted the top listings on its website Monday afternoon.

"We're just so honored that we made first of all even the top 100 and then to find out that we were 59th. That was very, very exciting," Mayor Lohr said.

CNNMoney cites the parks system and its historic district as the pride of the town, but Mayor Lohr says it's more than that.

"We've got a core of really wonderful people that live here," she said. "They all want what's best for the city of Jackson. Because of their efforts I think we have become a truly good place to live."

That's why Martha Wilson moved back to her hometown after 52 years away.

"I know just about everybody and some of them still remember me to that's good," Wilson said. "I enjoy the quietness, the peacefulness and full of good neighbors."

It's also why more people are calling the growing town of 14,000 home.

Todd Odom just moved to Jackson last month.

"We heard about the area. It's really nice," he said. "Got family that live in the Cape area. So we were just looking for a nice place to live and Jackson happened to be that place."

Mayor Lohr says combine that with a low crime rate, good real estate market, and lots of city services and you've got a winner.

The city is participating in the annual clean up, fix up week with free trash pick up, just in time for the 101st Homecomers celebration next week.

The CNNMoney article also cites "The towns of Jackson and neighboring Cape Girardeau offer a diversified economy..."
