I'd say the most prominent stereotypes in Germany would be punks, German chavs and Turkish chavs, so a little bit similar to some of the ones in the UK.
Even in Germany stereotypes are current. One huge problem is between Germans and Turkish people living in Germany. A lot of Germans consider all Turkish people to be chavvy and of a lower social class.
A still evident stereotype in Germany, is that the West Germans feel that the East Germans are lower class/less well educated.
There is also the typical stereotype from the British that Germans (Belgians, too) are alcoholics! I've even seen Germans cracking open bottles of beer on a train at 6am!
I was very struck by how the film highlights the divides that people see between groups that they identify with and those that they don't, without trying to get to know individuals in those groups. Good work.
Hi, interesting video with different perspectives, well done! I live in Belgium and have found since living here that there are fewer sterotypes than when I lived in Wales. More generally speaking I agree with those in the video that say it is wrong to judge people by the way they dress and "it is the people, not the stereotype". I think that is a worldwide reality. Keep up the good work!
Hi :) I'm currently a resident of California, USA and I work with youth in the greater Los Angeles area. Great film on the issue of stereotyping no matter what city or country you live in. The film does a good job of showing how people often stereotype others because of fear and misunderstanding. Most people when asked, do not agree with stereotyping others. The film maker leaves the viewer asking "why don't we just communicate with each other" Good Work! :)
