Just out of interest, does anyone know if there's any earlier examples of the 'disappearing behind the lamppost' thing? To my knowledge, this is the earliest I've seen of it (though I'm guessing there might be other instances in cartoon/drawn animation)...

FYI: The title is "Ghosts BEFORE (not for) Breakfast". Very much like the French Dada/surrealist films being made at the same time in Paris. Great stuff. Today movies are a computer-generated crap-fest. That's progress.

It goes incredibly well with a couple of mid '30s big band sides: "Mr. Ghost Goes to Town" by Woody Herman - segueing to "Cowboy in Manhattan" by Benny Meroff. Not Hindemith by any means, but they add a certain period levity.

I'd suggest watching the version where People Like Us did the soundtrack to it. Supposedly this isn't the real soundtrack.

As Arte Johnson would say, "VEEEERY INTERESTING"! What do spirits have for breakfast, anyway? I think they have a big bowl of GHOST TOASTIES! :-)

It all begins with the insubordination of hats.

It seems to me that this would be a huge influence on Terry Gilliam's Monty Python animations.
