(cont.) A family that was obviously working class said that they were middle class. The assumption was innocent, but it highlighted the ignorance most people have of what it means. The man's wife said, "There's [sic] the people who got it all." and "There's no in between no [sic] more." Not to mention their shag carpet. Nevertheless, it was upsetting what happened to the couple in that documentary.

@Salmagundiii I think so too, and it is sad that their world is dying. As for Abercrombie it is tacky because it has its name plastered everywhere. At least Lacoste and Vineyard Vines have understated logos. J.McLaughlin is good, and has distinctive colors and cuts despite the lack of a logo (similar to a Brooks Brothers' pink oxford cloth button down). I also remember in Capitalism: A Love Story Ronald Reagan's tie tack and tacky brown suits. Another criticism from that movie:

I absolutely LOVED Mr. Fussell's book, "CLASS" (if possible, please update!) GREAT to see him on this video!
Also absolutely lloved the PEOPLE LIKE US programme! Glad to see excerpts here! : ) Cringing at words like those shown here is admirable....but what does one do when others say 4-letter words? (Even 'serviette' (4 'napkin') is better than THOSE horrors! Please be assured, taste still lives...& those who have it, (like I hope I do), are SO grateful for videos like this! Thanks!!!!!
I thought the lady at the beginning was talking about swearing lol! Imagine how horrified she would be after hearing a swearword?

I think Louis Alvarez and Andrew Kolker were skillfully creating a window into a dying world with the inclusion of these segments. Not that the issue of class is dying, just the world people like these old-money WASPs came from. Elsewhere in the documentary, they show that some snobbish teenager girl would just as judgmental about someone not wearing Abercrombie as Eleanor is about someone using the word drapes.
