The origins of that flag are very iffy to say the least so if Newfoundland did become a republic then i would rather have a new flag made up. I think a republic would only be worth fighting for if we got the corrupt rich leeches that run our province out first. They may be our own but if we keep the same institutions and the same system of government in place then the only thing that would change would be the color of the flag and we would have a tyrant in St.johns instead of ottawa.

The idea of a republic is flawed. I have spoken to Irish nationalists and they tell me that their government does not even allow a political party to be formed unless established parties agree to accept it. It is undemocratic and easily corruptible.
A traditional constitutional monarchy is a better idea. Not corrupt republican or absolutist-parliamentary systems like the flawed Canadian government is - basically owned by internationalists and no real monarchy.
