hmmm... hardly. Far from it in fact. Your clever repartée, however, tends to indicate a less than thorough comprehension of advertising theory or history, so my making this post is probably as futile an effort as was reading yours.
The only element beyond pure humour that makes this piece worth saving is the voice over by Duvall.
Yeah, I get that. My comment was meant to address the poor graphic standards, writing and staging of the ad. It lacks focus and seems to have all of the professional pizzazz of an SNL or SCTV parody of the same period. I recognize that Canada has always lagged behind in TV production quality, but this ad just seems to be a pile of cheese slapped together by monkeys. Now, my opinion is biased by a subsequent 30 years of development in advertising (Nike-style branding didn't exist yet in 1978!).
Keep in mind that the commercial was produced in 1978. Of course it's going to be terrible if you're judging it by 2009 standards. Obviously the average 15 year old with a pc has technology available to him today that the average 30 something ad executive did not have in 1978.
wow... props to dave duvall and all - but that commercial was terrible on so many levels - can you imagine an ad like that running nowadays? a 15 year old on a pc would do better... even the typography on the warranty and that commitment thing is brutal... 1 minute spot that references an ad from the year before, wanders around from being an educational documentary to a brand ad to a sales ad to a quality promo... yeesh! there's no sizzle AND no steak here!
Respect to all Canadians from the US.

Dave Devall recently did a TV spot for the Ontario Toyota Dealers after his retirement from CTV in Toronto.

That's Dave Devall, not David Duval, OK?

I wonder if it was in Dave's contract with Ford that his spots be dubbed in the shitiest possible manner?
