@triggerhappy14 Actually, it does take 3 to fly it. The C-130 is not certified for single pilot operations, it requires a pilot, co-pilot and a flight engineer.
@EternallyFunnyGuy It doesn't take 3 to fly, but it takes 3 to effectivly fly it in a situation. 1) A pilot. 2) Second seater (co-pilot/radio operator, usually called an observer). 3) A scanner, it's easy for pilots to get their heads into the cockpit, it's the scanners job to keep an eye out for other aircraft and the mission objective. To fly a plane, especially a C-130 alone, is idiotic to say the least.
@Hache2KMusic I'm an aircraft mechanic/NDT (non-destructive testing) qualified technician. I can tell you without question that this was foreseeable; there are many tests that are required to be carried out by technicians on the main spar running across the fuselage and into the wings (including C130 Hercules aircrafts)
In the CF these tests are carried out every periodic (about every year or two) to inspect for internal cracking and excess stress.

C-130A 50 years old. How stupid are the operators to let the people who flew it endanger their lives.

I don't think I would consider a C-130 a "massive" airplane.

This is not a manufacturer issue!
