Here is an example of what Calvin and Hobbes are like everyday to eachother.
It is nothing to be worried about, it is classic dominance behaviour.
They rumblestrutt eachother, snort, chatter and sometimes have 'face offs'.
Don't worry if you witness this between your guinea pigs, it is completely normal.
Calvin and Hobbes love eachother and never harm one another.
Guinea pigs should only be seperated from eachother if bloodshed occurs, otherwise let them work out their differences.
Barnaby and Ernie have been together for over a year now and still rumble and chase eachother every now and again, it is harmless and normal.

  • Is teeth chattering normal? I have two females kept apart and when I try to introduce them, one chatters her teeth and the other one appears to be scared. The teeth-chattering one then bites the other one and I imdeiatly end the introduction. No blood is shed, but I'm scared somthing might happen.

  • @Strangetown906 Yes it is normal. The pig chattering is warning the other pig to leave them alone. For example, if Ernie chases Barnaby around and Barnaby has had enough he will chatter at Ernie to quit it and leave him alone and Ernie listens.

It is only an issue if the other pigs doesn't back off or chatters back.

If you're one pig is backing away and leaving the chattering pig alone then most likely she is showing that she doesn't want to fight and will listen to the chattering piggy.

  • @Strangetown906 Ok, but the teeth-chattering pig usually bights the other one when I try to introduce them, no blood is shed though. also, the one that get bitten usually just sits there, not annpying the other one while it chatters.

  • @Strangetown906 How long is the longest you've left them together? The chattering pig is probably just showing the other pig she is in charge and it is a good sign the other pig doesn't fight back. If the bites aren't leaving marks then it is probably just nips and I'd wait it out to see if this settled down. It takes time for pigs to calm down and work out who is the boss. Barnaby and Ernie took at least 2-3 weeks to start trusting eachother enough to eat beside eachother without freaking out.

  • my three boys are just like this ALLLLLL day long lol
