  • Vicpol's main two are Air490 & 495.

  • No it is hems 2 Moron

  • Not knowing who you are responding to and since it's identified as HEMS 2 in the title I'll give you the benefit of the doubt. FYI HEMS 2 is also known as Helimed 1.

  • Nice vid,man! I love that bird!

  • i know that, but the main ones in melbourne city based i was talking about

  • We have one of these beautiful birds in Grand Junction, Co. it is white with blue and green markings and the hospital is St. Mary's

  • cool video of bell 412

  • The Sydney Hobart rescues of 1998 clearly indicate Helimed 1. But that was with the old 412 VH-NSP. When Mr Kennett was booted out of government, the new government of Steve Bracks started with the replacemnt of all Helicopters, Hems 1 (air495) Hems 2 (Helimed 1) and Bendigo. Hence the new Bell 412 helicopters. VA VAA Bendigo VA VAB Gippsland (Helimed 1) 2 New Dauphin n3 for Air495 (Hems 1) and Air491 Police airwing (Blue) 2 new 412's to commence soon in vic to bring total to 5 air ambulances

  • In 1997, Mr Kennett and his cronies finally realised its benefits and continued the funding, In a restructure of the ambulance service of Victoria. Helimed 1's control was transferred to Air Ambulance Victoria, to work along side Air495. It was decided in 1999 to rename the fleet hence the Hems1,Hems 2 and later Hems 3, and soon Hems 4 and Hems 5 titles. Again the communities of Gippsland and eastern vic fought to retain the name Helimed 1, and won again. Its callsign is still Helimed 1

  • When setup by the NSCA in the early eighties it was known as Helimed 1. When NSCA collapsed Lloyd Helicopters (CHC Australia) took ova the contract with the ambulance service victoria south eastern region, who were responsible for it. Not air ambulance victoria. Excessive cutbacks by the kennett government in the mid 90's threatened it survival. But the local communities of Gippsland and eastern vic fought for its survival and won.
