What a ugly plane??
Strange plane too

The TF33 engines on the WB aren't that bad for its role. As you go up in altitude, the bypass becomes less efficient. Way up high a pure turbojet is the best option. Turbofans do best with denser air and up there a fan beating at thin air is wasted power that the engines need. I love the old TF33's

An old, but still a handsome airplane.

lol its a canberra/U2 hybrid

@Breatherable Yup, as a mechanic,I always liked the old line"Simplicity is the key to reliability". That's the reason the U2 is still used, although it's basically a heavily modified F-104, it serves it's purpose very well. The SR-71 was far too expensive, and in the end the U2 stayed useful. I guess the B-57 fell into the same place, too useful to be tossed since the role it held wasn't so important a replacement wasn't necessary.

@Oldbmwr100rs My thoughts exactly, basic Canberra design (or B - 57) with large engines and huge wing area usually equals very high altitude work.

Kind of funny,I was just watching a video of a Canberra and got to thinking if modern bypass jet engines could be fit to one,how good of a plane it could still be with such a large amount of wing area. It's nice to see that i wasn't the only one thinking of that. It's a very nice design, only hampered by old inefficient engines, i wonder how well the new ones worked with it.

USAF flew Canberras for 25 years.
