John Duffey performing The Boatman - from the Seldom Scene album - Dream Scene - John Duffey, Ben Eldridge, Dudley Connell, Ronnie Simpkins, & Fred Travers.
...this is a wonderful compilation of John Duffy's work. I first saw the Scene at Carlisle Fest outside of Hamilton Ontario mid 70s and was hooked. Saw them again at Pinnacle Hill Fest in the Ottawa Valley, Ontario and Kissimee N.Y. This comp. brought some tears for sure and the expose by Akira was very a bit heart-wrenching. John Duffey is one-in-a-million and is sorrowfully missed...we love you...RIP
this man left a vocal blue print behind its sad he is gone but his voice still rings in my head almost every day i miss you john duffy some day i will see you you will not never be foggotten
Fred, I asked Randall about this song back in 95 and it's similarity to The Traveler. He said "I'd been trying to get John to sing one of mine for years. I thought the easiest way to do it was write one like he'd have written." I dunno if y'all had heard that, or noticed the similarity. I thought it a good story. He was surprised someone remembered that song.

I lived in Cabin John, MD and every Tuesday night I'd ride my Velo to the Red Fox Inn and listen to this man. Unreal.
