Zoviet France interviewed on City Limits (could be The New Music but for some reason I don't think so). Please excuse the quality of the footage. These are VHS tapes from the mid 90s and have degraded badly over the past 20 years. Also tacked onto the end is an excerpt from some kind of promo video they were rotating around for Shadow, Theif of the Sun that also appeared on City Limits around the same time. The live show clips are from their show in Toronto at The Rivoli in 1990 to promote the Shadow release on Death of Vinyl. Also present in the interviews is Toronto underground legend and operator of the Record Peddler, Chris Twomey.

  • yep, i was at that show as well. at the rivoli. the dancer was mesmerizing as was the music. amazing show and one i will never forget. i never saw this interview on city tv. nice touch with chris. he was the main guy i think with getting all that experimental stuff into toronto. happy days at the record peddler and that book store on bloor street.

  • @heavydoom Yeah Chris was the man. His days at Record Peddler are legendary, as were his video nights at the Riv and the many other things he had his finger in. Thing is, he's a phantom now. No idea where he is now or what he's involved in. If anybody finds out, please let me know.

  • I was at the Toronto performance in 1980. An amazing show and tour. They had played a grand total of about ten performances in as many years before embarking on a North American tour that took them throughout the USA and Canada. The Toronto show was the finale of the tour. Left to right, the members are Robin Storey, Andy Eardly, and Ben Ponton as they are being interviewed. They would last another five years before Robin left to form his solo act Rapoon. They were pioneers to be sure.

  • @warzoned1 I was at this show as well (@2:39 starting up at dancer). Fantastic night. I think Chris Twomey ran a series of rare videos beforehand but I can't remember - it seems ages ago now.

  • yeah, where the hell is chris? i was at his apartment back in the days on church street. the music he had.....it was nuts! wall to wall of music. vinyl, cds and tapes.

  • I remember seeing this when it aired, I was a big fan but, never had a chance to see them since I had never been to their live shows (one of which had flyers that recommended everyone bring pillows, the entire audience was lying down all over the club as they dreamed to the music, man I wish I hadn't missed it :-( ). Thanks for posting this.

  • This is amazing!!! Manys thanks for the upload! You have done a service to Mankind!!!!

  • this line-up played in Seattle in 1988. (at least i think so:) they were fantastic. i was moved to start The Noisettes soon after. though i still haven't attained their quality...

  • Brilliant. Thank you very much. I wish that not only would the Charrm releases be reissued (and Gris finally released on CD), but DVDs of their video art like the work in this.

  • This is GREAT! Crappy quality or not. thanks.
