Mike, the only reason I said Maya is surperior is because you said " I can't think of anything that the bigger programs can do that after effects can't" wrong. I have to use Maya to make 4D models of a character for a film or video game. After Effects can't do that.
Don't get me wrong I love after effects, but It can't do everything...

I would have thought it was obvious that when I referred to the "bigger programs," I meant bigger compositing programs. Obviously AE can't make 3D models (I don't know what a 4D model is). You can't easily write a screenplay in After Effects either, that doesn't make Final Draft "superior." You pick the right tool for the right job.
That being said, since this time the compositing program Nuke advanced significantly, and I would say that for large scale compositing, Nuke now far surpasses AE.

After Effects is very good, but Mike, your wrong, Maya is surperior...
