@JonathanErber 3 hrs. Valves didnt look too bad but the head had a crack between 1 and 2 cylinder. Only 90,000 miles and the head has to come off because the cat was plugged. Thanks EPA!! Rebuilt head 150-200 bucks. from ebay. Still waiting to hear from the 150 deal. Fel Pro head gasket set 100 bucks. My Nissan NAPZ 24 went over 300k without any engine work. Double chain no crappy belt. Honda not as great as i thought.

These things collect alot of carbon around the valves. Hondas tend to run lean and hot. And carbon wouldnt help any. Im sure my valves are caked in carbon and that was the main problem. When replacing the head, would i need a new cam also?

@journeyquest1 No, I'd just swap the cam from the old head. They're really easy to install/uninstall. And yeah, the valves on the center cylinders were NASTY! The outside ones weren't so bad tho.

How were the pistons? My 90 CRX DX has a burnt valve and it lost compression in one cylinder. The engine started losing power and in a matter of 30-40 seconds stalled. The temp gauge was normal. But the cat was ruined because unburt gas leaking. The car only has 90,000 miles. And the car was running fine up until that point. Did you get the head rebuilt or exchange it? Thanks

@journeyquest1 I actually just went on craigslist and found someone parting out a civic. They sold me the new head for $20, and I just bolted it on. Total cost was $80 in gaskets, and $20 for the head. $250 isn't bad for a Honda Civic. lol My pistons were fine. I wouldn't worry about it. This thing was actually running on two cylinders tho when I drove it home. Didn't have much power, but it ran!
