The US has way too much medication freely available. My son wouldn't be able to find anything in my closet that may harm him.

There is (or was) a show called "World's Strictest Parents" where British teens who were misbehaving were sent to various parts of India, Africa and the Caribbean to see what real hardship was.

These teens in this generation need to be sent to Africa and see what real hardship is..instead of trying to fool around and WASTE their life and try to die on PURPOSE! How stupid can you get! How is life fun or WORTH living if you can't even remember anything because of drugs?
So stupid. Try hoping you won't be killed every night or raped or taken into an army who kills innocent people- SEND THEM TO AFRICA! They need something to do- Stupid!

Kids need to educated on safer drug choices. Coricidin is extremely dangerous and kids who are using it need to be encouraged to use robitussin instead. Likewise, kids who sniff glue should be encouraged to use nitrous oxide instead. Not that these drugs are 100% safe, but they are safER.
DXM is the most interesting experience I have had in my life. I wouldn't recommend it because I think it is not the safest thing to do, but I certainly do not regret having used it myself.

Just because some people use drugs as a form of self harm doesn't mean that's all there is to it. I managed to earn a first class honours degree in physics while experimenting with many different drugs (including dextromethorphan) on a somewhat regular basis. Of course, you don't see that side of it on Dr Phil, so it perpetuates the myth that all people interested in using drugs are no-hopers.
