@lydian77 yeah, unfortunately at the time I was only 20 years old and spent too much time partying and not enough time actually enjoying the country and all the sights. I spent alot of time at a nightclub by the name of "Yvettes" run by a retired Air Force CMS and his german wife (Yvette, of course).....
thanks for the videos ! I was at Spang from 85 - 87..... thumbs up if you ever ate at Kinito's Pizza in downtown Spangdahlem...... it's not there anymore unfortunately.
Thanks for the (literal) trip down Memory Lane. 81-83, I was in the Crew Chief (AGS) dorm right after the 4 Seasons & chow hall, hadn't seen it since then. Went back in 88 to visit a friend stationed there and was amazed by all the construction (they now had a Burger King!) Can't even imagine what it looks like now.
Was there 93-95 & for vacation in 2009. A lot has changed since this was made. There are now rotaries where B-50 meets that road by Spang, the gate you drove through is totally gone, the one replacing it is by the CRS "castle" and rarely used. CBPO was education office. That BMW @2:30 was (maybe is) the same kind I had, O-Club gone, road divert is gone (now 2 way), p.o. was legal, dorm in work was CE, . You should see Spang now, you wouldn't believe all the construction since this was made.
Back in '70 I rode the approximately 10 clicks between Bitburg and Spang on my bicycle both ways. Those hills in the middle were heaven or hell depending on where you were on them. Thanks for posting.
I lived in the crew chief barracks - in '79 it was the last building on the right as you approach the chapel, just past the four season store. The large tree just before the building used to be the "short tree" - tradition was the night before PCS'ing crew chiefs would toss their boots in the tree. The AF Chief of Staff was coming through and they thought it was a good idea to remove all boots. I was the first person to throw my boots back into the tree before PCS'ing to Eglin. Thanks. Good vid!
@kevp951 Yvette's was the bomb... the bouncer there named Mike would always sit down with me and do some bloody brains... Loved that place...
