Sony HDR-CX700V review.
Blunty3000 takes a stroll around the HDR-CX700VE to see what its got on offer, does it suck, or is it the best consumer video camera on the shelf?
It claims to do professional quality HD video, it has two flavours of low light shooting and it does super show motion video... so lets look under the hood

(BTW that "E" at the end of the model number only indicates the "european" model (and thus, the Australian one) as opposed to the Yank one. The difference being 50P/60P and 24P/25P. DOUBLE PARENTHESES ALL THE WAY)

"With its "Exmor R" CMOS sensor, the HDR-CX700V Handycam® camcorder delivers superior low-light capabilities. Enhanced manual controls and 60p/24p recording options provide the precision you need for shooting professional-quality HD videos. CinemaTone technology lets you capture stunning videos with deeper, more film-like color tones. The wide angle Sony G Lens lets you capture more of the action with sharp images and brilliant, accurate colors. Also equipped with 96GB embedded Flash memory, you can record and store up to 40 hours of high-definition video footage (HD LP mode). A vibrant 3.0" touch-screen display lets you compose and view your shots while a built-in GPS receiver gives you the ability to view your current location on the LCD map display, as well as "tag" your shooting locations. Additionally, this camcorder provides advanced capture and control features including expanded focus for precise manual focus control, zebra and peaking for precision focus and exposure adjustments."

  • Do you really guys like the quality of the image? I mean the colors and everything about the image???? I mean be true to yourselves when you answer?? Especially when you pay +1300 dollars!!

I find DSLR image quality better, exept for their limitation in the duration of the video that they continuously record (a few minutes).

I think I'm going for the upper end professional ones from Sony.

It's not that Sony left me a choice. I totally didn't like the quality of the image in this video.

  • @VideoDocR For all your waffling... you didn't actually say anything at all about what it was about the "image quality" that is bad in your eyes... so please, what, precisely, about the "image quality" turns you off? if you're gonna go on about it you could have least been even the tiniest bit specific.

  • @Blunty3000 @Blunty3000 1. The color depth and warmth 2. The speed of the focus 3. The white balance 4. the built in mic is not so good, and if it doesn't take an external one (i'm not sure if it does) then that's not good at all. 5. One major advantage of DSLR's is that you can change the lenses (like attach some Tele lenses for distant shooting), though I know that DSLR's have the video duration limitation which is my only concern when it comes to DSLR video shooting.

  • @VideoDocR 1 & 3 are a matter of altering a couple of settings to your own taste. 2 is WTF the focus speed is equal to or faster than comparable contrast detect systems in other cameras regardless of format (and I'd know, I own many varied cameras), 4 has NOTHING to do with "image quality" (and is also horseshit, as this mic is one of the best on-board mics on the market and WAAAAY better than the on-board of ANY DLSR BTW) 5. misses the bloody point ENTIRELY.

  • And it depends on what you're looking for..

And for the average traveler or who wants to shoot a family event as easy as possible, this cam is good.

But if you really want a clear image,, and better colors,, and white balcance,, and more manual control,, then you should go to the pro and advanced cams of sony (choose from their home page the pro or the advanced category)...

DSLR still need to ripen more when it comes to video. But compare any DSLR's video to this ones and see for yourself.

  • @VideoDocR SMH... dude... are you trolling or are you REALLY this thick?

  • @Blunty3000 Hello there I read the convo. I've heard of people who use system cameras professionally to shoot rock concerts, I guess it's a cheap way to get away with decent image quality. For myself I plan to spend some more money for a better Sony.

  • my gf and I use this model

  • Thanks for the review Blunty... you didn't mention the viewfinder.... how does it perform?

  • Perfect review

  • Excellent video! Very informative. I'm not sure if you are able to respond to all the comments on YouTube but im going to ask. I really like this camera and the features but it's price range is a little more than I would like to spend. Can you recommend a good camera in the $500-$600 range. Thanks again for the great videos.
