Well I mean regardless of the common gallops that he does, it stills sounds pretty good still. Riffs can be as easy as 1, 2, 3, but also still sound good at the same time.

Eh, this is how i played guitar when i was 16. Recycled 16th notes in the exact same rhythm. His leads suck. They are popular because this kind of music appeals to alot of people. It doesnt mean that its great. Calm down

fool.. it´s *not* the same riffs. it´s the style, there´s alot of variation in their songs, especially regarding lyrics.
you can´t say he plays the same rhythms, when it´s just the same style: it´s thrash/power metal and schaffer is well known and (under guitarists) admired for his clean and very fast galloping.
search youtube for iced earth guitar covers to get a glimpse of what that guy does ON STAGE AND LIVE FOR OVER ONE HOUR.

Is it just me or does the crowd for Iced Earth seem kind of small.

it was like 100F, people melted away all day... the crowd started coming out in the sun when the sun started setting a bit. it was a shame indeed, but this 3-day festival was one of the hottest ever, with gigs starting off at 1pm!
