  • Wow it's been a year? amazing... well I'll make another cause I have enough of them....

  • Oh and I've noted to myself the similarities between "Flood" and "So Called Friend," but the PT song just has a better rhythmic flow (HUGE Tool fan as well); also, as a musician, those notes seem to be commonly placed together. It's just natural for the fingers to play em like that.

  • Well I'm a Keyboardist with some knowledge of guitar, so I know some of these are fairly Basic, but I do believe PT Cited Tool as an Influence...I Think.

  • Man I love how these bands just rip off each other XD

  • Yes but, there are only 8 notes in an octave, 12 if you go chromatic; and there are only certain rhythms that appeal to the human ear, Jokingly, I've always thought that any composer has pretty much had it post Mozart and Beethoven as they'd already used them all up ... hence we got stuff like putting nails between the strings of pianos etc .. there's a few Louis Armstrong trumpet/cornet solos you'd recognize as guitar solos, and some you'd like to play. Isn't music a wonderful thing?!

  • @Spydrfish There's a clip where Wilson says Tool was an influence - you are right.

But let's face it - a lot of bands are so high they steal from themselves....

  • Man . . . Opeth Loves Camel and Seiges Even Loves Rush :D

  • @21stCenturyRushMan I should check that out and Revive this series at least for a new special.

  • Iluvatar is Marillion's rip off? It's so natural, even they're names are both based on Tolkien's Mythology. Both based on Tolkiens "Silmarillion" book.

  • Just stumbled upon this. Very cool little project! Thanks for putting it together.

  • I love Dream Theater and I really like seing them in these videos.

  • Most of this examples doesn't fit into the plagiarism area, definitely, and some are vague to say the least. Similar rythm patterns, or references inspired by other's people's work or mere coincidences.

The ones that are real plagiarisms is the Camel and Opeth, Marillion and Lluvatar.

Porcupine Tree's spin to harder rock is by miles influenced by Tool, and not only in Lazarus, also in Open Car, but I love both bands, they send different messages and have different sensibilities.

  • So Called Friend and Flood have a very similar riff in one part, but nothing else in both songs resemble each other. Only so many notes and combinations in the world to use...But PT is God.
