The former Prime Minister looked frail as she appeared on her doorstep to give a brief wave and a smile before returning inside.
She had been whisked by car out of the private Cromwell Hospital in west London for the short journey back to her Belgravia home.
Lady Thatcher was admitted almost two weeks ago with an infection after suffering from the flu.
Her spokesman said she had now been given the all-clear by doctors.
David Cameron, the Prime Minister, sent his "warmest wishes" and is to find a new date to welcome her back to Number 10 to celebrate her birthday.
She had been forced to pull out of a Downing Street reception to mark her 85th birthday due to illness.
Medical experts said Lady Thatcher - voted the world's most influential woman in a weekend poll - was likely to have stayed at the private hospital for a "health MoT".
Visitors, including her son, Sir Mark Thatcher, said she was "chirpy" during her stay and was inquisitive about the Comprehensive Spending Review, despite being slightly sedated at times.
Sir Mark described the tests as "routine". They were thought to include chest X-rays to check for signs of pneumonia, and blood tests.
On one visit last week, he said he was "happy to see her" and added: "She is in very good spirits, absolutely excellent. It's entirely precautionary."
Lady Thatcher was advised by doctors to give up making public speeches in the wake of a series of minor strokes in 2005. But she continues to attend some public functions, and was present at a recent address by the Pope during his state visit to Britain.
The Conservative peer, who was prime minister from 1979 to 1990, was taken ill during a dinner in Westminster in March 2008 and spent the night in hospital as a precaution, but was later given a clean bill of health.
She was admitted to hospital in June last year when she broke her arm in a fall at her London home.

  • It's sickening to know that people are wishing Mrs Thatcher dead, when we're being shown

a frail elderly woman. What kind of person does it make you to call someone some of the things I've read in these comments? Nevermind her!

Despite it all you can't deny the fact that she worked hard to get where she did, fought battle daily in a patriacrchal society and held concrete beliefs.

I'm 16 from a working class family in the Notts, & my family has never spoken about Mrs Thatcher so disgracefully

  • God bless Lady Thatcher

  • @Thomas1986 you sir are a cock

  • They don't want to eat? Let them die!

They want to bring my country to its knees? Let them die!

They want to take my land? Let them die!

This woman had more balls back then than most male politics do these days.

  • @craigbaxtersmile Well bully for you and your working class family with your crass, patronising values, even Hitler might have been frail one day if he'd not chomped on cyanide whilst shooting himself in the head. Some of us remember what an evil old bitch she was where it counted, and 'working hard to get where she did' says nothing - it's not about ambitious drive but the CONTRIBUTION that a p.m. makes - to serve their country - NOT THEMSELVES! Her legacy is one of the ugliest imagineable.

  • They very nearly had to treat her for a fractured neck of femur with that shambolic, poorly assisted exit, much as I loathed her I can still appreciate that she needed an able bodied assistant on either side to help her walk, she looked so undignified trying to clutch the railings which were out of reach and obviously was too incapacitated mentally to ask for help. That idiotic woman trying to make her stand up straight & wave when she was trying not to fall over needed a good kick up the arse.

  • que bien se la ve... que bueno verla asi pagando cada cosa que hizo... vieja ladrona!

  • that would be cool if she ripped off her dress and starteg break dancing

  • She looks so exhausted, wonderful Lady. Long live Mrs. Thatcher.

  • your family did not talk about Hittler too, right ??

I hope she has moisture on her underwear.

  • @luissuriani shut up
