Ronald Reagan: "Tear Down This Wall"

The highlight of President Reagan's speech in front of the Berlin Wall on June 12, 1987.

The famous line "tear down this wall" was one that many of his advisors would have preferred he not say and one that many liberals laughed at. Reagan told his advisors "it's the right thing to do" and history has judged it to be so.

This speech, like Reagan's vision for ending the Cold War and bringing lasting peace to Europe were controversial. Many so called "peace" activisits seemed to endorse the status quo of a Europe still divided and scarred by war in which the Berlin Wall was the clearest symbol of that injustice.

The Wall is gone and so is the injustice and peace, which is more than the abscence of conflict, is the memorial to Reagan's vision.

@ruth7919 Well, the problem is the U.S. is so torn between the new (and in many accounts idiotic) way of the world and those who are trying to reset it to the glory days. This, mixed in with a series of bad leaders, and the overwhelming influence of obsolete concepts as well as concepts that are just downright ignorant about the future make us get the worse of both sides. We need a new party to take charge and use their brains, not their bibles and not their propaganda.
