A short trubute to James Watson (1951 - 2011) who died suddenly on February 6th. Quiet City, performed in the Philharmonie, Berlin by James when he was 18 years old, was recorded with a small chamber group in 1978 and appeared on the LP "Trumpet Man". A reminder of Jimmy's wonderful, lyrical playing.

  • I remember Jimmy playing at solo contests back in the 60s. He used to play a piece called Angus Macdonald. His tone was a delight. He won many solo contests at that time. I myself won a few. I was a euphonium player. A great loss, not to just to the music world, but to all of those that knew him. Steve Anderson.

  • @ACTCofficial Quality playing indeed. A sad loss to the profession but it's as a friend that I best remember him. We had some great times together in Leicestershire. The end of an era.

  • R.I.P. and thanks for all. andi konig

  • Jim we miss you every day

  • Beautiful.

  • I can't think of anyone meaning so much to so many people that had the provilege to have kown him.

Jim, your loss remains unbearable; as it ought to be. How fortunate I feel for the recordings even if listening to them is hearbreaking, every time.

  • What a deeply moving eulogy.

I am sorry for your loss, John.

  • The world of music will be a sadder place with the death of the great trumpet player Jimmy Watson, not only a fine player but a great teacher and a very larger than life friend. I have some great memories of him especially our time at The Royal Academy and starting out into the music profession. He made his mark and he will never be forgotten

    Thank you Jimmy

    George Parnaby

  • I met Jim once. A great guy and a SUPER player. He is going to be missed!
