  • From everything I've read, Zworykin did not have a working iconoscope in 1923. So Farnsworth was the first to have a working tube in 1926 or so. But Zworykin's tube was sensitive enough for live pickup, Farnsworth's image dissector really wasn't because it had no storage capability.

    Another Zworykin breakthrough was the kinescope. It made a large-screen TV set that was bright enough possible. The 2nd anode allowed wide-angle deflection of the beam before accelerating it to a high brightness.
