Why, "I'm learning by teaching you, aren't I?" and not, "I'm learning by teaching you, am I not?"

@rawen2011 As I mentioned two years ago: As for "I am a teacher..." we could actually say, "am I not?" for the negative question tag, but as question tags are informal we use "aren't I?" This is odd, isn't it? We have contracted forms for all negatives in the verb to be except I am - you aren't, s/he isn't, we aren't, they aren't - but we don't have I amn't!
