This is the flathead 6 cylinder Graymarine from my 1956 Lyman project. The boat sat in the back of a boatyard for about 10 years before I purchased it and began a full restoration. I replaced the plugs, plug wires, cap and rotor, points, condenser, coil, and fuel pump, and rebuilt the carb. After all those years, it started right up. I'll go over everything before it goes back into the boat, but for now it's running.

  • @CCCommander Yes, the CrooksCraft was a small company in San Jose, CA. I do not know much about it either becuase the company was short lived - about 10 years i guess. I have a few pamphlets and advertising materials from the company, one with my boat in it. It is called the CrooksCraft Corsair - 1966. It is a 15' 4" runabout with Gray 100 engine. It has the whole mahogany work-up on top & no fiberglass anywhere. Anyway, Crooks made kits for DIY and I think 10 models each with engine options.

  • @theWORDonHealth Thanks for all the info...wow, as a 15 footer it must scoot right along with that flathead. How's the condition of the boat? I'd love to see photos or videos of what she looks like sometime.

  • hey what carb do you have on your engine? i can tell its zenith. i have this same engine but out of a CrooksCraft. Mine has the 10870A carb. Does yours have the same? Good job on getting it to run!

  • @theWORDonHealth sorry for the delay, had to wait until the next time i was in my workshop to check the carb. yup, sure is a 10870A...I would imagine Gray used the same carb on all of their 100s. I don't think i've heard of CrooksCraft, can you tell me more about it?

  • @CCCommander I just got my engine started for the first time after rebuild... do you know if there is a timing mark on the flywheel housing? The engine sounds good but I dont know if there is a specific mark or angle it should be at. I got the carb working right by installing a fuel pressure regulator. My 6V fuel pump was pushing out aroun 7 psi or more.

  • @theWORDonHealth Glad to hear you've got her running! There's no timing mark on mine, and as of yet I haven't done any timing adjustments. For the fuel pump, by 6V do you mean electric? Mine has a mechanical pump, which I replaced with what I believe to be a new original part (local Napa was able to find one). It has a glass bowl and a manual primer pump. No idea what psi it puts out, but there's no pressure regulator.

  • @CCCommander Yes, I mean electric. I have the mechanical one too but my grandpa, when he had the boat, put an electric one in there. I will try to get a video on here this weekend or next. I am trying to get it in the water but it is raining here in Oregon every day for three weeks now. It is really frustrating lol. The boat is in good shape for its age w/ mahogany on top that needs a bit of reconditioning and the hull is sound. There isnt a drop of fiberglass in the construction.
