THIS OLD CHURCH -- An Original Song
Copyright 2008 Words and Music by Joe C. Ellis
This old church don't look like much I know,
But it stood for years through the wind and rain and snow.
Great Grandpa help lay the stones many years ago,
This old church don't look like much I know.
This old church sent boys to Uncle Sam,
Who proudly fought for the freedom of this land
There're graves out back from both World Wars, Korea, and Viet Nam.
This old church sent boys to Uncle Sam.
Chorus
This is where I first believed.
This is where the Holy Ghost got a hold of me.
In this modern day most have gone another way,
But this old church is where I want to be.
Instrumental interlude
This old church gave comfort through the years.
Here many hearts found courage to face their fears.
When Daddy died, Momma came here to cry her tears.
This old church gave comfort through the years.
This old church still answers to the call,
To preach the word of God to one and all.
They may have kicked God out of school,
Tore the commandments off the wall,
But this old church still answers to the call.
Repeat chorus
added to the end of song:
In a world of sin and wrong,
This old church still stands strong.
This old church is where I want to be.
Me again! Just listening to your song again. I love it. One of my fav's. Sure wish I was sittin' in church when ya sang this, would have been awesome. Hey, I'll bet you will sing it for me in heaven. Can't wait!
Blessings and love,
~Rob

Wow! You've written a gem. I love the country flavor to the song. And I couldn't agree more that this old church is where I want to be. Awesome song!

Thanks, Rob. I'm a lay pastor at a small country church. My experiences there inspired the words. God bless, Joe.
