Sandhill Cranes, plus one Whooping Crane gathering in preparation for the fall migration. The Whooping Crane is a rare sight indeed, with only about 200 individuals known to live in the wild. The species is staging a slow, but steady comeback from the brink of extinction, with the help of a very dedicated band of avian experts from Florida and Texas to Wisconsin, Tennessee and Maryland.
