A Top Fuel run (Steve Read in ANDRA 2009) with an ordinary instrument cluster graphically added to show how fast these Top Fuel machines really accelerate!

  • THIS VIDEO IS FAKE, AND SIMPLE MATH EXPLAINS IT VERY QUICKLY:

If top fuel passes 1/4 mile in about 4.5 s, this gives average speed 402,5 m/4.5 s~89.5 m/s=322 km/h !!! In this video acceleration is almost linear so with finish speed of 530 km/h, would be unable to make average speed of more than 530/2~265 km/h so this is elemental error. TOP FUEL has about 8 G at start so it accelerates FASTER than in this movie. This is of course nice try to explain this level of speed, but u need accelerometer

Of course the video is fake, the instruments are graphically added afterwards. But I already stated that in the description of the video.

And the instruments are not top notch accurate either. The acceleration is not constant and the speed is not linear increasing through the entire run. The purpose is to give average Joe some idea of how fast these machines really are.

Sorry, the original broadcast didn't have any engine sound.

But I fully agree - I would love to hear that engine roaring (it's even better live and standing just a few meters away when they get off from the starting line) but as I said the original broadcast didn't have any engine sound.

The biggest factor contributing to the enormous power output of these engine is the fuel - nitromethane.

Combine this with a big V8, supercharger and running the engine as close as possible to destruction for 5 seconds only (the engine is completely rebuilt after each run) and you have massive power output.

  • @AllahlsDog

Yes, I think it will accelerate. It's actually only the last second or less they have full clutch engagement - so most the run the actually slipping the clutch (and therefor not using all power as it is converted into heating up the clutch plates and these gets ridicously hot).

Typical Top Fuel engine is a supercharged 500cu (8.2 liter) V8. They are using the inferior Roots type blower since twin screw supercharges are not allowed (was banned many years ago).

Acceleration is 4.5 g from standstill to 60mi/h in as little as 0.7 seconds and can reach 320mi/h over a 1000ft.

    Tony Schumacher's did a test run in 3.78 at 323.89mi/h on a 1000ft strip!

  • @TheMoezilla Shut up, nerds make the world go 'round. You wouldn't be watching this video if it weren't for "nerds".

  • @FullHDultraHQ NERD ALERT!

  • @FullHDultraHQ 322km/h is middling speed

  • @FullHDultraHQ i fink this is not a fake 8 g onli in 0.1 sek on the start when the punch is than no more than 5 g i fink this acceleration graph is corect

  • Smiled at the fuel gauge.

  • 0-60 in FASTER THAN YOU CAN BLINK!

  • does he stil have organs?
