@xander7ful The idea of a liberal media is more myth than reality. The mainstream media was dominated by conservatives clear up to the mid-1990s. But with the advent of the internet, alternative media, and looser deadlines it began to become more liberal in slant because it was what viewers wanted. I assume you'll disagree with me, so when you get a chance please do some research and you'll find several studies on this which found that the media have consistently been slightly right-leaning.

06:42 Is your wife going to Montana with you?
Now THAT's a great joke with Chet's fixation with Raquel. Cavett, you damn genious.
-
Seems he has a little fixation on Racquel -Ya think!

@xander7ful I wouldnt compare Huntley and Limbaugh.

Don't know if I am nostalgic or not or if we we're just better than the slacker fukks we are today...

@guyfroml Yeah, he'd be disappointed to see that the corporate media has turned news into entertainment, in order to distract people from solving this country's problems. It's easier to scream "death panels!" at the top of your lungs rather than take seriously important issues like health care. He'd be appalled to discover that the media is dominated by lying right-wing shitbags like Limbaugh, Hannity and Beck conning their stupid, gullible fans out of their money. You're better off dead, Chet.

":...American journalism always is the best anywhere in the world." - Chet Huntley
Maybe it's a good thing you're not alive today to see what's happened to your "American journalism" and how it has crawled into the Obama presidential bed and kept warm wrapped with the blanket of liberal, progressive socialism, and how it works to keep the American people uninformed of what is truly going on in our government.
Yes Mr. Huntley, I'm sorry to say, you would shake your head in disappointment.

Douglas Fairbanks is sitting next to Janis. May God, what a stellar guest list. Janis passed on that year, Chet in 74 and Fairbanks in 2000. You think Joplin would have outlived Fairbanks but not to be.

I have a feeling that his conservative politics had something to do with his leaving too. Network news was becoming increasingly liberal in the 70s. This was about 10 years before Rush Limbaugh made it cool to be a conservative media figure, so it must have been uncomfortable for Chet Huntley.

drags on cigs and coke pipes are more deadly than too much TV.....
Unbelievable!! That Cavett interview with Janis Joplin I've loved all these years was followed on the same broadcast with this sober, dignified interview. To have a show this good on now...
