Its because when they record Gerard can sing each song in bits and pieces, when he sings live he tends to get a little breathless and occasionally fall off pitch, and also he can't layer on vocals, so the other band members pick it up whereas in the studio its Gerard's voice layered over Gerard's voice...and for all the people who are likely to hate this, I'm not hating on MCR -They're my favorite band ever- I was just explaining why they sound slightly messy live :)

@xXCupidsChokeholdXx This was Christmas 2004. He got sober August 11th (?) 2004. So he'd been sober for a while here.

Also, he didn't always sing badly when he was drunk. One of the worst, most drunken shows they ever played - the turning point for everything - was Summer Sonic in August 2004, and yet there are clips of him from that same show belting out 'House of the Rising Sun' and sounding AMAZING.

Plus he and Bert were still friends for a good few months after Gerard got clean. :)

@xXCupidsChokeholdXx No dude he sobered up because he nearly killed himself. Look up life on the murder scene. Plus Bobs in the band. Bob joined as Gerard got sober :)

@ryneldo Well (and this isn't me trying to start a lame youtube fight) from what I've seen/read from both of them about the whole thing, he sobered up after him and Bert went seperate ways. From what I've seen, that was part of the problem. But who knows I could be wrong.

I guess what most people can't seem to understand here is that, Gerard is quite intoxicated here. You can tell. This was long before he sobered up, that's why you'll find his performances have vastly improved over the years =)
