WEAPON-M1842 US Springfield
CALIBER-.69
LOAD- Buck and Ball, (.67 round lead ball, three .31 buckshot)

This was the weapon carried by the 69th New York during the American Civil War, and it had a maximum effective range of 100 meters. However, within the 100 meters, it had a deadly effect on the enemy.

  • wow 100 meters? the danish rifles in 1848 and 1864 had a deadly range of 400-450 meters

  • Rifle being the key word. The M1842 was smoothbore, in other words, a shotgun. It fired one large .64 caliber (unpatched) ball, and three .31 caliber round balls.

  • couple weeks ago....we'll try and do it again at the Irish Brigade Slug Fest over the summer...stay posted for dates!
