I had this same conversation with my aunt about Hawaiin history. I was just casually talking about certain historical events in Hawaii, and she flew into a rage, claiming that my "facts" are wrong because they don't come from the oral history of the native Hawaiins, which according to her was the only reliable source on the history of those islands . . .

@Wuggynaut Actually Many Western languages, not just Spanish, have a specific word for black that start with the letters NEG: German, Russian, Hungarian, Swedish, and French. Lot of the cultures of these languages have names for a white/black men and women, they are not meant to offend. Many Spanish countries Negra and Negro is used to describe a black entity. Negrito and Negrita is to describe a person of any ethnicity or color, can have a sentimental or romantic meaning "sweetheart" and "dear"

Very real... good perspective!
As a young Muslim, how did you reconcile Islam's history of enslaving blacks, going back 600 years before the Europeans began slavery.

Reconciliation wasn't necessary because what I was given was not education but attempted indoctrination. Information that would put Islam in a negative light was never even mentioned.
