Forty years ago this August, Tom, Bob, and Paul (that's me) set off for the Woodstock Music Festival. Yup -- the original, one-and-only, Woodstock.

In honor of the 40th anniversary, I'm uploading (in small, easy to digest pieces) the original home movies that Bob and I made at Woodstock. Bob, historian that he is, has been curator and archivist of these films for the intervening four decades. Amazing!

Converted from their original Super 8mm format, they have no sound, the quality sucks, and the many format transitions over the years have taken their toll.

Don't worry about it. This is history.

  • As I prepare to celebrate the 40th... I loved your 8mm footage. Was that Kesey's bus in the 'bus scene' - it looked like they 'circled the wagons' and you were right there! historic.

  • We were camped near where the Hog Farm folks had set up camp. I believe the bus was theirs.

  • To say this is awesome would be trite! Home 8 footage of the festival from those who attended, there should be a DVD compiled of just these films alone with added music from '69! TOO MUCH MAN! Thanks for uploading this!

  • Hey, thanks for the nice comment, Matt. I've still got some more footage that I'll be slicing into short segments and uploading.

I actually did have a soundtrack on these when I first uploaded, but YouTube nailed it as copyright violations. I guess you'll just have to hum along.

  • I wish I was born in the 60's I mean when i told my mom she said that 60's was a bad time with drugs hippies and hyprocites. But to me the 1960's were history and i mean I LOVE THE BEATLES so the music at woodstock was beautiful to me.All they have now is stupid rap!

    1960's FOREVER!!

  • Damn, what I would've done just to be there for one day..

Cool movie. Thanks for sharing, very awesome!

  • I would have been so stoned there it's not even funny I would have just been sitting there stoned on weed, hash, acid and just grooving to the music if I was alive then and I would been so happy it sucks being 16 not being able to do what you want.

  • Yawn....stupid hippys!

  • Man, I would've been eating acid like it was candy

  • what i loved most about woodstock is the just the idea that so many people were willing to drop it all and get together around peace and music. it was about everyone, not just themselves, it was bigger than that. we're so wrapped up in our own little worlds now that no such movement could ever happen, it seems. a very special time in history, not to be repeated. i only wish i was alive then, i would of done everything i could to get there.

  • is that michael lang at 1:27?

  • So this august i plan to celebrate the 42nd anniversary by listening to the woodstock album and seeing if my grandson will sell me some weed...... maybe :)

Why dont all you young dudes restart the counterculture and have another woodstock, and grow you some long hair, i have had long hair since 69 and never intend to cut it. PEACE

  • I remember going to woodstock like just ended. I had just been sent back home from vietnam. When i got there, i had never done any type of hard drug except smoke a little pot when i was stationed in Lai Khe on an r & r or something like that. My best friend Pete Spencer had some acid and was like, Hey try some of this shit man, and i was like, Uhhh i never done acid before, but i trusted he would be there if i started freaking out. so he placed it on my tounge and 15 minutes later..... Woah!!!!

  • thats awsome you gotta go. im 31 and i wish the times were like they were then. music love. peace. minuse the war. but thanks for the vidio.

  • This is real history, thanks!

  • @PeaceX200 Your Mom Is Correct. In the 60's Civil rights did not exist, black people were n-words, Missles in Cuba, President-JFK Murdered, going to Moon,, Viet-nam and the Great Society, all at once. Beatles break up before Nixon became prez, our war was tearing the country apart,,That was the end of it all... Jimmy and Janis would be dead soon,

,,,with-in five years 5 years we would hear such tunes as disco-duck,,,go figure Woodstock Nation. it all just a dream Some of us had
