Coleman Campaign Admits Finally (sort of) That We Are Media

When you call a press conference, it is usually to disseminate information. Not so with the Norm Coleman campaign this election season. The Coleman campaign has repeatedly denied The UpTake and other independent media access to its press conferences when they are held at the campaign's headquarters.



But when the press conference is held in a public building such as the State Office Building as it was on Tuesday, the Coleman campaign has no authority to deny anyone access. So Coleman spokesperson Mark Drake came up with another way to either prevent us from asking questions or perhaps protect the campaign from answering them. He refused to give The UpTake's Mike McIntee a copy of the lawsuit because we "have an axe to grind". Drake offered no evidence of that.



That led to some interesting moments during the press conference and finally the Coleman campaign admitting (sort of) that The UpTake is a "legitimate" media organization with a "very fair" reporter.

I am sure that the Coleman campaign would consider your coverage to be more fair and balanced were you to clear all of the footage with them first. By "streaming" everything that happens and all of their actions live, you are casting their lawyers and spokespeople in an unfavorable light.

Uptake has covered (exhaustively) every second of this long process, giving it more attention and coverage than pretty much anyone else, except maybe CSPAN? and that's questionable. I don't know if CSPAN was even there.

WoW! Way to go Mike. Awesome reporting of the truth. As I see it, the reason they did not provide you with timely information is because they are manipulators and you are an honest reporter.

It doesn't make difference. It was a lame statement.

He could have said "We presume you to be seeking weak points or invalidity, to share with the press, and so we don't want to give you a copy of the suit." But that would be frank, earnest and straight forward.
