  • According to the Open Encyclopedia of Chess Openings, another option is the Nimzowitsch Attack/Gambit with 3...c5 4.Qg4

    1.d4 e6 2.e4 d5 3.e5 c5 4.Qg4

    At first, it appears silly. But its pretty easy to play and it's surprisingly effective. Most French players that I have played using it haven't been prepared against Nimzo's unorthodox attack!
