Great contribution, the final results are generated by both the software and the kinect, or juste by the software? I m wondering what is the role of the Kinect?

Kinect is can only see the first "layer" of objects in the room; it does not have any visibility of what happens in the back. Also, it only generates image information but does not provide motion tracking information.

Organic Motion R&D combined the image information from the Kinect camera + the information from additional webcams + our proprietary software to generate real-time complete 3D motion data.

Why not use 2 kinects, instead of 1 kinect and a bunch of web cams?

ipiSoft already works with 2 kinects or with 4-6 cameras

Ipisoft does not generate real-time mocap data, and if you use only 1 camera there are lots of problems with oclusion. Even for simple mocap you have to spend a lot of time processing the data.

could you please explain the purpose of the Kinect. It seems that with all those cameras around, there is already sufficient information to create a 3D model up to a scale factor.

there would still be gaps and besides, the Kinect gathers its data by shining light at the scene - there's a possibility of the two interfering
