I have no strong opinion re: "American Indians" vs. "Native Americans."
I read somewhere that "American Indian" was the term they themselves were most accustomed to applying to themselves, so I went along with it out of respect.
For example, the AIM or American Indian Movement clearly refers to itself as "American Indian."

@thechinadesk agreed but they aren't American Indians. Columbus was so ignorant that he thought that he landed in India where he originally meant to go. I agree 100%. This country belongs to Mexico and Native Americans(or American Natives)

Actually the entire southwestern part of the United States, from Texas to California, rightly belongs to Mexico -- or the American Indians if we go even further back.
The US saw it, wanted it, and deliberately started a war in 1846 so that it could take it from Mexico.
Mexicans in that part of the US at least, ARE in "their own country."
