i put a piece of tin foil down first (i used a long piece, easier to pull out and i didnt have to worry about burning my fingers) and instead of heating it up for so long that the plastic warps, i used a push pin with a sharp point to poke a hole in the center of the back piece, which after poking thru the plastic pushed the eyeshadow out.

@ninadechiwawa I asked the MAC store in Concord CA and at first the woman helping me said they didn't accept them without the pan and I questioned it and then she asked the manager and the manager said they DID take them =)
