Amazing how Lawrence mentions the 58,000 Americans that died in the Vietnam War and not the MILLIONS of innocent Vietnamese citizens that died from American saturation bombing, the burning of villages, My Lai style massacres, etc. It just goes to show you that the imperial attitude - our lives are more important than theirs - is still alive in this country, even among "liberals".

@greentexian Having listened to hundreds of hours of the Nixon tapes, I can tell you that there are many, many moments when Nixon's decency, generosity and yes humanity shine through. However, don't look for those snippets to be highlighted in the media. You spoon fed drone of arrogant assumptions. If that "pill" of info doesn't fit into YOUR oral cavity, then you know where you can stick it.

Yes, don't play all the friendly, mutually praise filled conversations with Golda Meir or the Kissinger tapes advising Nixon to make most of those "worst decisions". Nothing said was too far off the mark. A little harsh on the blacks but many of the "ones who've come along" ARE pissed off at the majority of their own and use the "N" word when speaking of self inflicted arrested development, how many act and conduct themselves and live their lives.

Why was Nixon's remark about Jews living in the Soviet Union so horrible? IMO, Nixon was just being realistic. Saddam Hussein killed Iraqi dissidents, did O'Donnell support the Iraq war? You can't have your cake and eat it too.
