use a "keyhole" saw. It's still a lot of work, but works better and faster. Also wear safety glasses and a dust mask!

thats too much work just use a hand held saw/knife and use up and down motion when finished use the utility knife to smoothen out the edges so the new piece of sheetrock and fit perfectly
take measurements of the area u want to cover
use utility knife to cut just go over one time flip it over and break it towards u and cut the brown paper
