  • What bothers me is that Britain in the 1960's produced these types of dance/music show with much more clarity and sharpness not fuzzy, dark and distorted like many of the classic American dance shows produced in the US during the same period.

If you ever watch British shows like Jukebox Jury, TOP, and Ready, Steady, Go, you would see what I mean.

  • @cheengators The thing is that only a few of the approx. 85 Shindig episodes have survived with the original quality. This one is a kinescope / 16 mm video, with inferior quality. The sam thing happened to Shivaree, Hollywood A Go Go etc. There are no British shows from the 60s that look as good as the b/w Ed Sullivan clips from around 1964 - 1965 (because the original video tapes still excist). Besides, almost all TOTP, RSG and TYLS have been destroyed. That's a real shame.

  • @cheengators This is a Kinescope. (a TV camera lens shoved up against a TV monitor). BIG difference from a broadcast quality recording. Unfortunately, Kinescopes are all that are left of some really memorable US TV performances. The BBC was much better at preserving the original master video tapes, audio tracks and films.

  • @scdevon No! There's hardly anything left from Top Of The Pops, Ready Steady Go or Thank Your Lucky Stars (and these shows were broadcasted once a week for quite some years), so I don't agree with you. I think that all Ed Sullivan And Hollywood Palace from the 60s have survived with broadcasting quality recording.

  • @scdevon I've heard that some idiot at BBC shitcanned tons of archived rock video.

  • Vintage Rydell! Great clip! Bobby made happy rock 'n' roll and still does!

  • awesome song. thanks for posting. just love the song and Bobby Rydell.

  • yeah! good memories and good feeling too, we had a great time when we were young, and it's still great. Bobby had so many hits, there all good.

  • @damanfrom808 This brings back so many memories of childhood.

  • Bobby sang "Swingin' School" in the 1960 James Darren/Tuesday Weld movie "Because They're Young." His hit version debuted the week of May 9, 1960 and peaked at #5 over a 12 week chart run. (The other side, "Ding-A-Ling," was lso a hit, peaking at #15). It's interesting this clip is from 1965 in that that was the year he released his 33rd and final chart entry, "Diana." Rydell's last major hit was 1963's "Forget Him," after which people pretty much did, sad to say, as Beatlemania emerged.

  • showman

  • Bobby Rydel is sooo awesome!!! the style is great...happy, party sound.

  • It's great to see such "young" kids (like the way we were, lol) having such a good time! I certainly did and will wish that at least some of them get a chance to revisit. Thanks for this great post!

  • Born to entertain!!!
