MIX 2007-2008
Chauncey Ray Billups (born September 25, 1976, in Denver, Colorado) is an American professional basketball player. Billups is the starting point guard and team captain for the Detroit Pistons of the National Basketball Association. He played college basketball at the University of Colorado, where he was honored in 2004 as the fifth player to have his jersey (number 4) retired. His nickname is "Mr. Big Shot." He was the 2004 NBA Finals Most Valuable Player.

He is also currently a member of the United States men's national basketball team that will compete in the 2008 Summer Olympics.
Drafted third overall in the 1997 NBA Draft by the Boston Celtics, Billups was traded to the Toronto Raptors in exchange for Kenny Anderson midway through his first season. Billups then played for the Denver Nuggets, who traded him to the Orlando Magic, although he was on the injured list until season's end and never played a game for Orlando (he was included on the season-ending team photo, wearing jersey number 2).

He was signed by the Minnesota Timberwolves as a back-up to then point guard Terrell Brandon. Billups replaced the often-injured Brandon and had a breakthrough 2001-2002 season. In June 2002 Billups signed with the Detroit Pistons as a free agent to be the team's new starting point guard.
When he signed with the Pistons, Billups was forced to take the number 1 (Ironically, Pistons number 1 jersey was originally worn by Lindsey Hunter before he was once traded away) because number 4 was retired in honor of Joe Dumars.

Billups quickly established himself in the Pistons squad, earning respect from fans and colleagues for his tenacious defense and clutch shooting. He helped lead the Pistons to the 2004 NBA Finals, averaging 21 points and 5.2 assists per game in the series to earn the Finals MVP Award in a 4-1 victory over the Los Angeles Lakers. In 2005, the Pistons lost the Finals in seven games to the San Antonio Spurs. He was also named to the 2005 NBA Second All-Defensive Team, along with teammate Tayshaun Prince, while teammate and co-captain of the Pistons Ben Wallace took home the Defensive Player of the Year Award.

In 2006, Billups was co-captain of the team. Although he captained the Pistons to a franchise best 64-18 record, they failed to make it to the Finals for the first time in three years. He also led the league in assist to turn-over ratio.

Billups became one of the team's tri-captains along with Tayshaun Prince and Richard Hamilton (following Ben Wallace's signing with the Chicago Bulls due to free-agency) Billups has attained a reputation around the league as basketball a talented point guard, confident leader, and clutch player.

On July 11, 2007, Billups signed a $46 million, four-year contract (with a team option for a fifth year at $14 million)[1]. Billups had been an unrestricted free agent for several days after he opted out of the previous contract which he had signed in 2002.

During a game 3 playoff game against the Orlando Magic, Billups pulled a hamstring after going for a ball. He missed game 4 but the Pistons defeated the Magic 90-89 to take a 3-1 series lead when Tayshaun Prince hit the game-winning shot with 8.9 seconds left.

  • Sport writters never said that Iverson is better than Billups... Billups got a Finals MVP and a ring and that is more important than scoring titles or regular season MVPs. Any NBA players or Sportwriters will tell you that. Thats the reality. Individual skills are useless if it doesnt help your team win. Basketball is 5 vs 5. Billups is a better 5 vs 5 player than Iverson.

Iverson even proved it by turning my favorite team in garbage while Billups turned Denver in contenders.

  • Mr Big Shot

  • 0:58 that shit was classic

  • It was still a bad trade though. Sheed was the biggest waste of space on that team. It was past time for him to go, but they traded the wrong piece.

  • @kentube4

    7 straight conference finals.

    1 championship.

he could have stayed in Detroit and reached them, too. and lost again.

so Detroit had to try something to finally win a championship, didn't work out but going to conference finals was not enough for that Detroit team. period.

  • and for the record comparing these two players is unfathomable, their playing styles as pointguard are as opposite as it gets

  • billups has 7 straight conference finals appearances. billups controls the flow of his team's offense whenever hes on the floor. ai doesnt even believe in practicing to make his teamates better. ai couldnt do shit with the nuggets, it took chauncey one year to reach the conference finals with denver

  • @bk4verlum actually no, they expected AI to play great and they expected him to fit in there. everybody knows AI is mad when being benched, so why do i bring in AI when i bench him?

the whole thing was a management mistake, not the mistake of AI.

that's my thought, if you disagree, no problem.

  • but that was the same thing in philly, AI played a lot better at pg, and with iverson at sg Detroit had no real pg. come on, stuckey pg? he can play it but i think he's better on sg, too. and i dont care what AI does in public, he's a hustler, but why hustlin for a team that benches you? the best little guy to ever play in this league. why hustlin for a coach that talks more trash than the whole nation does.

  • i agree about the whole stuckey over ai thing but it wasnt like that iverson went back to being a sg which was his fault we would have done 10 times better with him at pg and not fighting for minutes at sg but thats his fault and michael currys fault but saying the guy was treated badly is bull look at the mans record pissing in trash cans in public gun weed charges not listening to coaches hes an asshole and hes self absorbed. i mean come on poor baby has millions and does whatever he pleases

  • sorry but benching AI for stuckey? you expect AI to play great and bench him for stuckey? that's a joke. and not what he deserved. and yes, he makes teams better, because AI still looks too much on his own numbers... what at least makes him the better individual player, but he cant make the team win and be as good as a team with chauncey
