  • what year was this?

  • We shot this about 2 weeks after Hurricane Ike ... September 2008

  • I watched, I cryed, I pray, I will rebuild. My home was on 331 Bayside Drive in Oak Island. Now it is an empty lot. I am here -- living in a camper. The sunsets are a little brighter each day. Such beautiful sunsets over Trinity Bay. The homes are gone, many old oak trees are gone but the sunsets are still beautiful. Thank you for the video of my Oak Island.

  • That's the same road we're on... maybe you saw us there the day we taped this. We had that place for about 50 years! And it was the sunsets that kept us coming back. Many memories, shrimping and fishing. But there will be more!

  • My family owns a house on Bayside Dr. Now it is nothing but a strip of land with a square of dirt where the house once stood. A couple of trees didn't make it. No house on our street made it. None of us has ever witnessed such complete devastation in our lives.

  • I think we're all neighbors! It's such a small community, but a wonderful place. We were shocked at how bad it was after Ike. As papaw says in the video.. never seen anything like it.

  • I lived on bayside...and now we have no home...Im 19 and i grew up in Oakisland. Swimming in the boatramp when i was supposto be doing homework...fishing of the back deck of my grandmas shrimp house...all my childhood memories..i wanted my little girl to experiance. My grandma is rebuilding but i cant go back..i just cant

  • Same here! I know that we bought that house about 50 years ago. We used to shrimp a lot in the 70's and early 80's. Actually we did find all 5 of our shrimp nets tangled up together in a tree in our yard. Before they had been sitting in our boathouse all folded up. That was basically the only thing we found. That and a few dishes. Our house was a bluish gray color next to the log cabin house. The house on the other side of us had burned down. Actually I am the niece of the owner.
