The Better Beer Authority reviews James Page Burly Brown Ale from Stevens Point, WIsconsin.
Partial Transcript: "James: On Tap Burly Brown Ale
This is your Better Beer Authority. Im James Knott. Today we are talking about James Page Burly Brown Ale which is brewed in Stevens Point, Wisconsin.
The beer was originally brewed by James Page in Minneapolis, but he has since sold the company and it is now brewed at the Stevens Point Brewery even though it says James Page Brewery on the packaging.
This year-round offering is an American Brown Ale with 5% ABV and 32 IBUs. There are 158 calories in each 12 oz. serving.
Whats an American Brown Ale? Well, its basically an English Brown Ale with American ingredients.
Scott, is this beer as rugged as the label?
Scott: I dont know if I would call it rugged, but its a good beer. Its unique. It has a good nutty almost burnt smell, but the taste is really smooth and then it changes a gets really bitter on you. But overall its a pretty good beer.
James: Joby, feed off that.
Joby: Well where he was going that it changes, you smell the beer and it smells nutty. You taste it and you dont really get that nuttiness until the aftertaste. Then it stays on your tongue and you have that nut, coffee, chocolate, malty taste on your tongue. So it goes from nutty to not much back to nutty.
James: Adam, would you say that this is this change that hes talking about, are you perceiving that? And if so, is that a good thing? Or a bad thing?
Adam: Oh I think its a good thing. And yes, hes getting the change. Its very complex with the flavor versus aroma profile of it. You get a nutty, coffee smell to it. It has that complex where its smooth in the beginning and then you have that hazelnut coffee flavor with that bitter black coffee aftertaste to it. I think its really intriguing and really exciting.
James: Are you excited Scott?
Scott: Im sitting by these two. Im always excited.
James: What kind of rating would you give this?
Scott: Id give it a seven. I think its a good beer. Id choose it over quite a few other beers out there. Its a good brown ale or burly brown ale. No. Its a good beer. Id give it a seven.
James: Joby?
Joby: Im not sharing the excitement that these guys are sharing. For me
Scott: I can help you with that.
Joby: Well, you keep your hands to yourself. For me, when its a dark beer I want the mouthfeel that accompanies that. And Scott is rubbing his leg on my right now which is a little weird.
Scott: What are you talking about?
Joby: For me this brown ale just isnt doing it for me because its almost an imitation to me. If its going to be a dark, coffee tasting beer, I like the thick mouthfeel. I give it a six.
James: Adam, wrap this puppy up.
Adam: I dont think I can, but Im going to try. This is a good beer. I like that its a solid flavor complex flavors. I read in some of the other beers that they compare it to Newcastle. Its a little bit more bitter than a regular Newcastle or something like that. This is a good beer a good session beer. I could sit around and drink quite a few of these. I give it an 8.
James: That gives James Page Burly Brown Ale a (???) on the BBA scale. Thats what we think. Let us know what you think in the comment section.

Good stuff, guys. FYI, I believe this beer is now being branded and sold under the Point brand. Not sure when they made the switch.
I'm a pretty big fan of the Burly Brown, if only because it's one of the very few decent microbrews you can find in my small southern town. Enjoyed the review. Keep up the good work.

@PoisonRamune We shoot two episodes at a time. Every other Monday. We thought about changing clothes between episodes, but it seemed like more hastle than it's worth.
